Responsibilities: Competitive analysis, interviewing industry expert, refining the workflow, wire-framing and prototyping
Overview: Design an inspection app that include the defect list of Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS) provided by the Buildings Department. The app will integrate into the Raspect product line. My task was to redesign the existing preliminary prototype. I refined the UX and UI through interview and research. My design was output to the software development team.
Design Process
Key features:
- Defect annotation tool
- Organise building drawings
- Organise defect photos
- Building drawing markup
Research—Competitive analysis
Redesign
I built on top of a drafted version made by the senior designer and refine the workflow and UI.
The design challenge
1. Optimising UX/UI for fast workflow, give flexibility for skipping steps
2. Retrieving the information with the mapping and location of the image
Problems
The workflow of first version was deemed too redundant for the fast-paced practice in the field.
Flowchart
Interviews
Pain points
Clumsy: Carrying many building drawing plans for markinig defect location
Time-consuming: Manually sorting pictures, matching pictures and location information on plan
Refined flowchart
Final solution
Major improvement
Removed necessary features according the real workflow of interviewees.
Flexibility and speed: More intuitive workflow for users to make annotation
The UI was changed to IOS for technical issues. It offers a flat learning curve for the users.
